MODULE TITLE:  

Social Media for the Travel Industry Module 1: Introduction to Social Media   

MODULE OBJECTIVE:   In this Module you will learn about social networking from the travel industry point of view. Social networking is a fast growing method for staying in touch with customers yet not all travel companies are fully committed to a social media plan. Travel trade suppliers such as cruise lines have developed powerful social campaigns. Social networking is now a worldwide activity and it will remain as a marketing tool for travel agencies. Travel companies planning for the next decade will require a social media strategy.  No certificate or letter of attestation is offered for this individual module. A certificate is available upon successful completion of all three modules making up the course: Social Media for the Travel Industry. A combined score of 80% or higher, on the three module exams, constitutes successful completion of the course. 

 OUTCOMES:   By completing this module you will be able to: •Explain the history and current status of Social Media as it relates to travel •Identify the differences between the major Social Media platforms: Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and YouTube

 •Better understand the terms and use of Social Media

 •Describe the way Social Media works in application

 •List the benefits and disadvantages of using social media for marketing •Calculate the costs and needed return on investment of a social media campaign  

 COURSE OUTLINE:   There are 3 lessons in this training module. Each lesson has a summary of Key Learning Points. Study Check questions are included at the end of each lesson to assess learning. The Module includes application exercises and additional resources to increase knowledge and skills.  No certificate or letter of attestation is offered for this individual module. Lesson 3 ends with a 25 question exam to test knowledge of lesson outcomes.

Desiree Ertuly is an industry leader. She has formal education a BS degree Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, a Masters of Management degree and a MBA.  She have been in the travel industry over 15 years.  10 years corporate travel 5+ years in leisure.  She have worked as a luxury consultant for a Virtuoso agency.  She worked for Silversea Cruiseline, British Airways, BCD Travel, Orbitz for business and prior to that in management at the Marriott Newark airport.  Her combined experience makes her a great candidate to teach travel.
